Hi, I'm Alexis! Your local goof with a camera.
(No, but seriously, I promise i know what I'm doing)
It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm 26 years old and currently reside in rural Carroll County. I have been interested in photography and doing it as a hobby since 2013. I picked up my grandparents' old camera one day, and the rest is history.
Since being a mere teenager with that dinky camera, I have furthered my knowledge of photography with classes at Carroll Community College, learning from my peers, and lots of practice.
Some things about me
- I'm an animal person. I've grown up with animals of all kind my entire life, so I have no problem with your pets being included in your family portraits!
- When I'm not taking photos, you can catch me at my day job as a dental assistant, enjoying the outdoors (when it's not 90 degrees), traveling, and birding!
- I was a finalist for The Photographer's Forum photo contest "Best of High School and College" in 2017, and two of my photos are published in their book!
How I Photograph
Ethicality is of the utmost priority when I'm out in nature trying to photograph what may be out there. Everyone wants that rare bird, or that close up detailed shot, but it's not worth much if not done with morals - to me, personally. I focus on having patience, waiting it out (a lot), and going to popular birding spots when there is less traffic so as not to draw attention to what I may be photographing.
Learning about the animal is also extremely helpful when out looking with a goal in mind. Knowing where to look, what to look and listen for, and knowing behavior is all part of the wildlife photography process. Not only is it exhilarating and rewarding, but it's also educational!
